Cuban Accomplishments

Can you guys list some accomplishments Fidel has achieved since the success of the revolution? Ie the health care, education, essentially things that wouldn't be discussed in the mainstream media.

Also, how successful do you think Cuba has been as a socialist state?

Cuba has done great things for its people over the years, and its accomplishments in universal health care, free education and aid to Third World countries has been brilliant to say the least. Cuba to me is a bastion of US imperialism.

I have great respect for what Fidel has done, even if he is a dictator. But I fear that Cuba needs to modernist and shed the dictatorship if it is to stay opposed to US imperialism.

Look at their literacy, poverty, and mortality rates compared to the United States.

What has Fidel achieved? How about: what have the Cuban people achieved? Just compare stats on Cuba, to stats of surrounding countries in the region (e.g. Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc.) -- then you'll begin to get an idea of what they've achieved.
