How to become a vegan....
Well if you eat the four major meats which are Pork, Beef, Chicken and Fish. I would advise you to cut out pork first. Go for about two months without pork. Then try and stop eating beef. (Please don't get ahead of yourself and try to cut out all meats and diary all at once). Simply because you'll go right back to your old habits and you'll start to think you can't get to your goal which is to become a vegan. Now once you stop eating beef move on to chicken, ect. As you begin to cut out these things. It would be good to start buying such things as Tofu, Beans, so you can come accustom with these foods. Just in case you have never eat them nor took a liking to them. And your in take of Vegetables should increase. Please do not become a starchetarian, This is a person who stops eating meats and then replaces this with starchy foods (i.e. potatoes, brown rice, cereal, whole nuts and a lot of soy products) This isn't a vegetarian nor a vegan at all. Now nothing is wrong with these food but too much is bad for your health and your not a vegetarian. Once you have gotten to the stage where you have cut out meat all together. You should begin to cut out all dairy products(i.e. milk, ice cream, butter, sour cream, ect...) There are a lot of replacements for these products like Tofutti's which is Tofu Ice cream which taste just like real ice cream. Earth Balance can be your replacement for butter, ect... MAKE SURE YOU READ THE INGREDIENTS TO EVERYTHING.. I like to drink Silk Soy Milk, Some people may like Coconut Milk, Rice Milk, ect... Things to stay away from MSG, GLUTEN, White/Brown Sugar(this contains pigs blood),Salt(same as sugar),Peanut butter(contains animal products),White bread(Use Wheat). You can replace Sugar with Organic Maple Syrup, Salt with Sea Salt. If your a Vegan please Add On.........................Peace

One of my favorite quotes:
"If we aren't supposed to eat animals, how come they are made of meat?"

I think eating too much meat is unhealthy but I think being a vegatarian can be unhealthy as well. I remember not too long ago there was a vegan couple whose baby was starving because of a vegan diet (http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/03/24/ctv.swinton/).

sonofrafe -this is a complete;y irrelevant atricle. one family out of god knows how many. veganism obviuolsy requires watching what you eat, which perhaps these parents did not do. the diet iteself sustains people perfectly when followed correctly. i myself am vege, and have huge respect for vegans, and hope to make the switch at some point in the near fuure (which is going to be soooooooo hard).
i know that the usa nutrional/health peoples have declared vege as being perfectly healthy-does anyone know if their is endorsement for a vegan diet??

Thanks comrade, i've been trying to be a vegeterian. (it's hard because I haven't really gotten rid of childhood hatred of vegetables...) I usually just try not to eat meat if I can avoid it, but that method sucks. I'll try yours.

Son of Rage. Well I can't speak for that family but I have a son and he is healthy as hell. Thats what his doctor says now some people become vegan and don't do research on things their body needs. Like vegans lack B12 which is found in alot of meat. So if your a vegan you should take a B12 vitamin or your intake of such foods like Soy Milk, Avocados and cereal should increase. But if your were a heavy meat eater you may not need to take B12 for a while or not have to have a large intake of it. Simply because your body stores B12. Now alot of people talk about freedom. Well don't you think Animals are oppress. I do, have you ever seen what these farmers do to these animal just for money. Matter of fact son of rage a Vegan diet is a the healthiest diet besides Raw-Vegan. Now if you said that those parents were fruitarians. Then I would agree simply because that is a hard diet to maintain especially if your raising children. Peace
P.S. Bush Youth,
Nothing is hard as you make it. So you can do, if you needed any help I'm here just get at me.....Peace

No I wouldn't eat another Human being, because Human beings have nothing to offer, in terms of nutrients.
I eat meat, because my Body craves it. It's one of the few urges I can't control.
I do respect veegans though, and I have no problems with vegitarians, its just not for me.

Personally, I'm following with that plan. I dropped pork in a day no sweat, but beef is by far my favorite food. Even more then that, I have absolutely no intention to stop eating fish and likely the same for chicken, since they both aren't mammals, and I have problems viewing them as "higher lifeforms". Even moreso, eating fish isn't as economically uneffective.

I respect vegetarians and vegans but I do not respect people who try to make it into a moral issue (as if vegetables are not living) or people who suggest that eating meat is unhealthy. There is nothing wrong with eating some meat, we are omnivores. It is only natural.

I have to say that we evolved to eat meat. That is to say that if your a vegan 'cause you think that its bad to eat animals, I disagree. Added to which plants have feelings too.
But if your a vegan 'cause you don't want to support the multinationals or 'cause it takes a heap of grain to grow one steak, then good on you.
I don't argree with eating inteligent life forms however. Such as humans, Dolphins and chimps that sort of thing.

so your a vegetable...
anyway, I don't eat pork anyway, being a Hassid :D
but seriously, if I myself kill the animal or watch it be killed, I feel absolutely fine eating it. And fish, too.

We didnt "evolve" to eat meat. All primates, at one time or another, consume some meat, be it small lizards, or a 70 oz steak.
Why deny ourselves?

Yes I'm a vegetable. LOL I'm not trying to convert anyone in here to stop eating meat. You can eat what you like. Now like I said in my third post on this topic. Your Medicine is my Posion meaning that what may be good for you, may not be good for me. There are two sides to a coin. Some people like heads and some like tails..... I choose to not eat meat because it's healthier in my EYES. You may not see it that way and I can understand that. peace

I'd have absolutely no problem eating another human. I don't imagine it would very good meat though unless it was a baby.

Would you /kill/ a person to eat them?

I think animals have such a low level of self-cosciousness it is acceptable to kill them. It seems to cruel to inflict pain on animals, but if you consider that we would inflict pain and suffering on humans we consider evil, for example, it is not hard to see how the same can be easily done towards animals. Animals do not possess this kind of consciousness that we would consider them evil or bad animals and so on. They are worth less than the worst type of humans simply because they possess a far poorer mind. Although people like Hitler who considered humans as mindless as animals will refuse to harm them.
It is a difficult subject and I think we can compromise by not causing excessive pain to animals but still utilise them as a food source and as a source for many other useful materials.

I'm not a big fan of pork, myself, but I do enjoy chicken and fish - as well as the occassional steak from time to time.
This is my diet, personally. I eat a wide variety of foods and I balance everything out as I tend to be a bit of a health buff. I have no objection with vegans or vegitarians as how you choose to live is completely fine with me. However, I recognise the design of the human body and it's adaptations to digest both plant and animal matter - so I ingest both of them as a daily part of MY personal diet.
I feel no sympathy for animal kind because we "slaughter and eat them." Animals eat each other all the time, and we're just another one of the bunch. Granted we have the intelligence to feel sympathy and compassion, and many of us use that as justification. However, I will not be swayed into a false sense of sympathy nor will I feel guilty because I'm ingesting such foods. This is nature as well as part of our design and I will live by that. Just as I will not be coaxed into feeling guilty because I'm moved, at times, by sexual and other-wise hormonal urges as a part of my development, and I certainly won't deny these. :P
I'm a non-smoking, heterosexual male, who enjoys eating a variety of foods including meats, vegetables, and fruits. I listen to what I listen to, I act how I will act, and I will not made to feel guilty because of my personal preferences in regards to my own life-style.

Personally, I don't much care what people eat or don't eat, but you might want to be a little careful about soy "milk"...especially for infants.
"A brand of soy-based formula feed has been recalled in Israel after three babies died and others were left seriously ill.
The "Remedia" milk, sold as a Kosher formula feed, may have been lacking a vitamin vital to brain development."
