Back in the 80s the military took command and formed a dictatorship. Over 50,000 have dissapeared and it is all blamed on the president. Of course simpathysers say that the dissaperitions are not their fault but are excuses made by the grieving peasants whose loved ones die of disease or natural causes.

Anyways, it is to my knowlege taht tomorow (Nov 9) there are going to be elections. Do you think that thikn gs will continue the same and people will keep on missing? or will it finally go turn into the democracy that the people disearve? or is it time for a revolution in Guatemala?

There is no democracy in Guate, especially after decades of oppression by the gov't towards the indeginous especially. Many have dissappeared but its estimated a couple 100,000 (like 300,000) have died over the years. Basically this is a slow genocide of the indeginous ppl of guatemala. They've tried revolting, but they haven't had their uprising yet....revolutions take generations of oppression to create the right conditions for a successful revolution. One of these conditions is education; unfortunatly, most of the oppressed are indiginous peasants that aren't usually educated, while a successful guerrilla needs great strategy to overcome the right and education seems to be an important factor. (like che/fidel..) Just my 2 cents...
Oh...and check out "Discovering Dominga" good documentary about Guatemala's slow genocide and sorry for the spelling mistakes its almost 3 am...gotta sleep
