I've heard that there is some debate over what his intentions were.

And anyways, it doesn't matter so much because he said "fuck you" to the British government, even when he was excecuted -- by denying them the right to disembowel him while semi-conscious -- which anti-statists of all sort today respect.

The king that he tried to blow up was King James the first of England and sixth of Scotland, the king that allowed for both realms to be united into the the United Kingdom. I have no idea if this has anything to do with it apart from him being a protestant (I think, I only assume so because I believe it was after the Scottish Reformation with John Knox and all that jazz). I think Catholics were going to lose out on land ownership and stuff.
