No, it's not from the Onion, and this idiot is a serious Rethug candidate for US president

Another day, another gem of stupidity out of Herman Cain. Honestly, I don’t know how it is possible for even the most die-hard conservative to envision this clown as the Commander-in-Chief. I, personally, would be terrified he would try to order a pizza using the Red Phone.
This is from a PBS interview in which Cain discusses China:

And secondly, we already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they’re a military threat. They’ve indicated that they’re trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat. (emphasis mine)
OK, while a person can be forgiven for not knowing, off the top of their head, that France has nuclear capability (it’s France. They’re not exactly known for belligerence), there is NO excuse for a presidential potential to be ignorant about the nuclear status of the worlds’ only other Superpower. China has had nukes since 1964.

Yes, this is the level of intelligence of a good number of the citizens in the country I live in.

He says alot of shit. The extreme right is anti-intellectual and this won't affect his poll numbers at all. This kind of shit has been going on all throughout the primary. Bachmann said that she's worried about the rise of the Soviet Union for example.

Most of the extreme right wouldn't vote for him anyway because he's black.

This is a man who lived during the Cold War. Didn't he at LEAST absorb some of this information through the mass nuclear arms hysteria campaigns launched by the US government? Does he honestly not know, or is he trying to lie to the American public to generate that very same hysteria? My fellow Americans may not know dick about shit, but most of them at least know that China has nuclear weapons.

I just had mental images of conscription and war.

Good thing I didn't update my selective service registration when I moved

This reminds me of when Michele Bachmann said Americans "fear the rise of the Soviet Union".

Seriously, I always thought that conservatives wanted to go back to the "good old days" with their policies, but in really they are actually living in the 1950's. It is no wonder their policies are so out of sync with reality.

I want good health care, clean energy, and reliable infrastructure. I'd rather put money towards that and risk having it all destroyed in a single stroke, than let them fall into dereliction in order to stock pile weapons to protect those very same things. Not to say that foreign policy has ever been about protecting us.

But it's much easier to scare people with images of imminent fiery annihilation than say convince them that our coffers are slowly being bled dry from an aggressive foreign policy.

You shouldn't "giggla" - remember - WE ALL thought that, for SURE - Ronnie Raygun wouldn't ever be President, because...and then WE WERE POSITIVE that Junior was too stupid to be...

Never, ever, underestimate the stupidity of the Amerikkkan Sheeple...
