This was initially only a reaction to post by RGacky, but I think the topic warrants its own thread.
Racism won't come back in jackboots and a bomber jacket, it will come back in a suit and a tie, hell it IS back, its called islamophobia.
Islam is not a race. Islamophobia is not racism, and IMHO its perfectly reasonable, when 37% (!) of young British muslims claimed they would prefer Sharia Law over British secular law (and this number has increasing tendency - the study, from 2007, is already probably an understatement).

I dont know about you, but these statistics are truly frightening to me. How can you not be alarmed when nearly a third of 16 to 24-year-olds muslims IN BRITAIN believed that those converting to another religion should be executed? Or 82% of the polled in Egypt believe adulterers should be stoned? I would say this is worse than Nazism... :(
I seriously dont understand why leftists, people who should be wary against any threat of fundamentalist religion or extremist opinions and should always be ready to defend atheism, humanism and women/LGBT rights turn a blind eye to the growing threat of fundamentalist islam and growing prevalence of blatantly extremist and antihumanist/antiegalitarian opinions it brings about, especially among the young people. Not only ignoring, leftist often immidiately dismiss even moderately worded and legitimate concerns as "racism" or newspeak "islamophobia". Why? It only serves to alienate concerned people from the left of the political spectrum, and works to drive away people with legitimate concerns to the right, thus ultimately AIDING the true racists, not even talking about aiding the fundamentalist islamists. Its no surprise people are turning more to the right, when there is no left alternative even recognizing their concerns.
I believe the Left should take a more decisive stance against this issue, and not only because ignorance of this problem greatly damages leftist PR and aids the right, but because I believe it IS a real issue that should not be ignored. We already know very well where ignorance of extremism leads, and religious extremism is no exception..
