We haven't had one of these threads in a while where all the music board regulars call me a meat head, jock, and borderline nazi for the music I enjoy. Lets put on our northface jackets, ball caps, and set it off:

best. thread. ever. (http://www.revleft.com/vb/bro-core-tough-t144361/index.html?t=144361&highlight=tough+guy+hardcore)

Not really too into it, though I do love a good breakdown. A lot of the music I definitely like, but the scene has always kinda turned me off a little.

Don't know if they're "beatdown" enough, but I always liked these guys:

Have heart is totes not beatdown. I mean... the song you posted is armed with a mind, and the lyrics are all about not fighting:

spineless and mindless. you flex your muscles and not your fucking head
a deep man with a strong point made without one thoughtful word said?
"huff and puff", the fierce fists will do the talking
cant speak for yourself so your "crew"'s with you walking
tell me whats worth fighting for...
and it better be something greater than an evening of the score

boy, your true strength sleeps behind your eyes!

its the absent minded fool who's afraid to think,
to extend an open hand,
to dare to earn a thing.
its the gift inside our heads not to take for granted..
because an unexamined life is a seed unplanted.
as the animals, they cant reason
but as humans we can.
so are you just a wild animal or a rational man?
our bodies bring us nowhere, might does NOT make right.
theres a gift inside your head

called your mind

Have heart is ok, I like them.

Solid contributions. Especially Xibalba or however you spell it, I was jamming their demo earlier today.

Hmm... Does American Me count? Do you just have to have lyrics about violence to be classified as beatdown hardcore?

If they're the band I'm thinking of (not sure if I'm thinking of the right band) they're more like a metalcore band.

KsuqAqbKh2I

Thats them, right?

Beatdown hardcore is more closely related to the NYHC sound than metal, though some bands which would be called "beatdown hardcore" or "tough guy hardcore" are more metal than others.

I dunno if you could really pin heavy hardcore onto one particular band. SOIA is clearly a band that is influential to the genre, along with cro-mags, agnostic front, madball, crown of thorns, slapshot, warzone, and earth crisis. I feel like those are really the bands that set the stage for what would become heavy hardcore/beatdown. But its kind of hairy because so many of the bands are still going, and bands that were younger than those ones, and clearly influenced by them (blood for blood, for instance) are not around anymore. And you could say that B4B was an influence on the sound, but really, they're such a contemporary band...

Ahh brings back memories of my highschool days, we had a thriving tough guy scene back then and a hardcore venue. Got to see and play with the likes of 25 ta life, Donnybrook and The Acacia Strain (just looked up the latter to see if they were still making music...apparently they changed styles to sound more like really bad christcore/metalcore ) I remember their song carbomb, people loved it even though it was just a breakdown

I remember the first time I heard carbomb, I was really into 90s metalcore at the time and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

More laughable are some of the kids in my town who were into good hardcore, that got out of it and started playing in deathcore bands when that shit got popular.
