I love Blood Meridian guys. Have you read BM? What did you think of it? Let's have Blood Meridian chat ITT.
For me, the power of the book is in laying bare the complexities and darkness of American continental expansion in a way that, although fictionalized, really cuts down to some historical reality. This summer I read the work that BM is mostly based on, Sam Chamberlain's My Confession and it is just as chilling and eery as BM, possibly moreso for its historical reality.
Other borderlands stuff also fits good here too lets talk about All The Pretty Horses - The Crossing - Cities of the Plain, or Juan Rulfo, or whatever you like that you think is cool.

When I reread it the second time, last summer, I got scared shitless cus the part near the end when the kid runs into the penitentes and then they were killed was something I'd forgotten from the first time I read it.
As a result I was convinced the book was rewriting itself to horrify me.
When I met Cormac McCarthy a couple of years back he was the friendliest famous person I've ever met.

read it um over the summer or maybe the spring i can't remember but anyway i thought it was a really good book and definitely demolishes the myth of the american west and exposes the grim reality of expansion

yeah, its a beautiful literary destruction of the myth of the frontier etc.
what i love about it too is that it does so without polemics.
also, guys basically did you see cowboys and aliens it sucked but at the beginning jon favreau tried to symbolically ward off blood meridian to "resurrect" the western. a sign of a bad movie.

bros have any of you read The Comanche Empire? it's non-fiction, but i feel like (ala. hayden white's theories) Cormac McCarthy's work has been pretty influential on borderlands historians for the last twenty years or so and the Comanche Empire kind of fits into this broader trend.
also, Violence over the Land.
