Right now I'm into a lot of Sizzla. I really like his music- Smoke Your Herb, Karate, Jah Will Be There are some heavy favorites. Whenever I sing Jah Will Be There to my friends they crack up for some reason...

I like the "harder sounding" reggae. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I don't know how to really describe it but yeah anyone recommend anything else out there?

Bounty Killah, Beenie Man, Chaka Demus ("Murdah she wrote"), Spragga Benz (Especially because he was in "shottas"), and Burning Spear.

Burning spear's marcus garvey album is my favorite reggae album. followed with tosh-scrolls of the prophet and then marely and the wailers- Live!

if you like scrolls of the prophet, you should check out tosh's box set "Honorary Citizen." 3 discs baby...

What, no Aswad? British ragga since the 80's, i think. they sound good.
and of course ziggy...I also have something by mama booker. its pretty interesting as well.

some of Aswad's stuff is like Jazz-Reggae. Awesome.
As for roots reggae, try "Handsworth Revolution" by Steel Pulse. The best British Reggae band. If you want more of a "disco-roots" feel (which is decent), Third World has some good stuff.

Oh, and don't forget Black Uhuru and Micheal Rose

It's all about the skinhead reggae--Clancy Jones, Harry J's All-Stars, Pat Kelly, Symarip, etc.

Skinhead reggae over here too. Desmond Dekker, Symarip...hm, does ska count too? Judge Dread, The Specials, and the like. :)

here is a good ska song I just wrote. To the Tune of "Land Ho!," which is strangely stuck in my head

I got my motor scooter
and my shiny big black boots
I'm dressed up like a looter
and I'm listening to Toots.

They claim that we're all Nazis
but you know thats pretty gay
I don't like to "push Paki's"
and Hitler was just O.K.

Well if I get my hands on a hairy scalp
I'm gonna' shave that mother down to naught

and If my ears pick up that a-Skankin' Beat
I'm gonna find myself some skankin' meat (some ass, fellas!)

well if it turns out that the skank-chick blew
I may just get back home and Marry Joon!
marry Joon!
marry Joon!

Ska, Yo!

Better a Skinhead, than Dead!

I like that song, and the lyrics are quite inventive. By the way, man, I've seen those red boots of yours. from the "I look liek a nazi" thread.

I bought a compilation called "Reggae Vibration" yesterday in a second hand CD shop. It's great! The compilation contains songs of both English spealing and French speaking artists and from different years... so I guess it'll stay in my cd player for a while now.
some artists:

tiken jah fakoly
pierpoljak
yaniss odua
lord kossity
