Prime Minister of Hungary, Imre Nagy, appeals for calm as fighting between demonstrators and the Soviet Army enters its third day. Estimates of the number of dead varied from 2,000 to 5,000. Bodies lay in the streets where they fell in what was already being called the Hungarian October Revolution.
