Does anyone want to have a group read through of the second edition? I think that it'll help to have a discussion after each section.

Please, it'll be fun :D

LiquidState, I have no idea how such a group read-through would work (I assume you do; I'm new to RevLeft, too), but I would happily and conscientiously participate in such an effort. So would my heavily marked-up second edition of the Marx-Engels Reader.

Thanks for your effort and the impossibly cute cats. They aren't yours, are they?

Mr. Natural and his housemate, Fritjof The Cat, send you their red-green best.

There's a group for it http://www.revleft.com/vb/group.php?groupid=217. We could set up week long deadlines and discuss a couple of readings every saturday morning, or whenever we decide, democratically of course :). This will be my first read through so I look forward to getting into it knowing I can get some feedback.

What is so special about the ME-Reader anyways? I have The Portable Karl Marx, by Penquin books. Should I put mine to the torch and rent/or buy a copy of the ME-Reader?

Is it longer? more complete works? what!?!

Please keep a record of the discussions somewhere here on RevLeft. I'd be really interested in reading the responses to each section even though I don't have a copy of the reader.

RedMarxist: I have that same book. I'm also curious about the Marx-Engels Reader. The Amazon page says it's 788 pages. And one of the comments says it's a complete enough reference to be able to write a dissertation on Marxist thought ... http://www.amazon.com/Marx-Engels-Reader-Second-Karl-Marx/dp/039309040X

I posted a link to where it would take place, namely the Revolutionary Leftism Book Group for Beginners group. We'll probably get started selecting the first reading this weekend.

Haha I'm sure it's fine, I just found the Marx-Engles Reader in my friendly local bookstore. Would you want to participate?

Great! So the first section will be pgs 1-25 and we'll discuss it on Thursday in the linked group if that's ok with everyone.

Oh, so it's just selected works? Are they complete or just sections?

The Jay
31st October 2011, 15:58
There's more than 100 pages of Capital I believe, but it's pretty much a very thorough selected works.

Yurgh, wasn't reading that fully there. I have all of these things anyway so I can join in but I'd need to know what is being read.
