Roman polanski's "The Pianist" was in my mind a master piece in film making. Not only was it poignant and disturbingly realistic, it was also a piece of art. The direction, the cinemtography was something i've never experienced before. Polanski really shows his genius in this film. it was amazing. But...it cost £33 million to make.

What do you guys think about big budget films like this. Do you think the art is worth it, or do you think it is obscene? Do you think that it is acceptable for anarchists and communists to make big budget art films like this?

Ken loack's "Land and Freedom" cost £2 million to make. Again is this too much money? What would people think if a well known anarchist or communist activisit made a film for £33 million?

Well the film artistry does create lot of jobs. There are hundreds of workers in one movie so i think it's good.

What is bad that these film stars are making too much money.
No I don't give a shit how long workdays they have.I mean how hard is it to act if you are good actor.

Same goes for sport and music.

if a filmaker in a post capitalist society needs to make a good movie that requires the use of expensive machinery or technology i dont think people would be shocked at the ammount of course actors and actresses will not be seeing those million dollar salaries that they do now. some people enjoy making films on a low budget especially horror im not talking about these teeny bopper "horror" movies pumped out today but true classics in horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Night Of the Living Dead were shot on extremly low budgets and still stand as two of the greatest horror movies ever same with Halloween shot on a low budget. it would all depend on the movie and the technology and machinery in order to make it as close to the directors vison as possible. the only downside is that the films wont see the success as they do in capitalism by bringing in money for the studio, im sure that will change though

soviet supreme the reason why sports stars make the ammount they do (which some is ridiculous ill agree with that) is because they wont see 30 + working years playing football or any other sport .most of thier careers are short but under communism that will change since salaries and wages will be abolished

the fact that it took Micheal Moore's lard ass $4 Million to lie about figures and fake interviews for "Bowling For Columbine" sickens me, especially when you consider the fact that Kevin Smith can make a great movie with $27,000.

Do you know why Roman couldn't come into the States to accept his Oscar?
because he was still in trouble for raping a 13 Year-Old
Christ, I'm sorry that his mom died in a concentration camp and slightly less sorry that Charles Manson's gang cut his wife up, but fuck man.

13.

I apologize. I'm on a tear.

Clerks was a great movie made on a low budget cant say much for that crap fest made for 20 million Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I thought it was staturtory rape he (Polanski) is charged with? if you want to see a good horror movie directed by him see Rosemary's Baby.

Statutory rape isn't rape and calling it that is an insult to real rape victims.

Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma were great. Mallrats was really good but compared to his other films, it kind of sucked and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was only good if you've seen all his other movies and were high.

As for high salaries, I realize their careers are short but their not that fuckin short. I mean how many millions of dollars do they make in a year? The average person will never see that much money. Not to mention all the musicians without lucritive recording contracts that barely have enough money to pay rent.

I can't say I totally disagree with your point, but how do you feel about what the Director did to his young star? I mean, once she would have gotten 15 or 16 would have been almost legitamite, but 13!?

She wasnt 13 she was 16 and she consented to have sex with him. And his wife wasn't "cut up" she had the faetus of her baby cut oout of her womb.

In a socialiost socioty it would not make a differance how much a film costs to make, as most films make a profit, which would just go back into the hands of the people. But I agree that the actors etc would not get as much money. However they would obviously get the fame and attention etc. But considering the often huge hours they get, would their be some form of "reward" for doing such a difficult job.

The question is not about post-revolutionary situations. What I want to know is how people feel about anarchist or activists in the present system spending £30 million on making a film. Is this acceptable or is it hypocritical. Would people be agree with a well known anarchist or communist spending this much money on making a film?

The first 6 Articles I found all say she was 13, unfortunately.
They also add a new detail-He drugged her. The last one is interesting because she is recalling what happened.

i just saw El Mariachi amazing it was only shot for 7 thousand dollars.

AT, how many anarchists groups do you know of that have large sums of money around and would spend it making a film?

7 Thousand ? I find that really hard to believe considering that you couldn't even make a movie on a Sony Handycam for that much. Believe me, I've tried.

In a Socialist society, these types of big budget movies may be O.K, with some alterations to the system. First, distribute the wealth a little bit better, no actors making multi millions, distribute it to all involved. Blah, blah, blah, who cares, right ?

Clerks and MallRats were the best. I own all of them and watch them all the time. Dogma is alright, but in my opinion, a bit too different from Kevin's other work. Jay and Silent Bob was fucking hilarious. Has anyone seen the deleted scenes on the DVD ? Priceless.

as usually, the things they left out rival the things they left in. Jason Mewes looks nasty on the DVD, though

Apparently the budget approved for Spider-Man 2 is $160 million. Hollywood has gone fucking nuts on the budgets recently, it can only be bad for Indie filmmakers and the like.

I dont know any anarchist groups who have £30 million pounds to spend on films. but this is a hypothetical question for crying out loud.

I AM NOT ASKING ABOUT IF IT WAS IN A SOCIALIST SOCIETY OR MAKING STATEMENTS ABOUT ACTUAL ANARCHIST GROUPS I AM ASKING WHAT WOULD YOU THINK IF A WELL KNOWN ANARCHIST OR COMMUNIST HAD £30 MILLION TO MAKE A FILM...WOULD THAT BE OK OR WOULD WOULD IT NOT BE OK....

i think it would have to depend on the content of the film and the effects used to make it, dont blow your top man
