I'm trying to establish the on the ground organizing that helped plan and led up to the start of OWS on September 17th. Anyone who's heard of any of this knows about the Adbusters release and how it went viral. But, as anyone who's done serious political work knows, getting people to pay attention to something online in no way translates into boots on the ground, and still less the creation of procedures of decision making and association that have been able to prevent debilitating schism, at least so far. In the schematic histories of the event that have appeared so far (such as this one from The Nation - http://www.thenation.com/article/163924/occupy-wall-street-occupy-everywhere), a lot of attention has been paid to the Bloombergville occupation earlier this year and the New York General Assembly over the summer, which has been described as a planning group for OWS. What do you know about the NYGA? I heard of it initially in the context of a general assembly type thing in Toronto, which was allegedly monopolized by more orthodox socialists. Finding out more after the fact is difficult, since it shares a name with one of New York's legislative houses.
