Last Night I was at a party and I overheard some guys talking about women and they said that "women were put there to fuck/screw/etc with men (Or destroy men's lives) or to test us" or some shit like (I'm not sure this is what they accurately said but this is close to it but I did remember the "Test Us" part) that which for some reason when I was listening to this I've been reminded about the whole "Pandora's Box" and "Adam & Eve" story which is equivalent to that.

Is this a example of sexism/misogyny?

Yes, trying to blame woman for our problems sounds pretty misogynist to me.

But if they were Christians it might be religious fundamentalism

If they were serious about that then yes. Guys often joke about that.

I couldn't tell they were joking or being serious but based what their talking about (about their past relationships/family issues I think) I think they were kinda being serious since the tone one of the guys said it as if it was a fact.

Then I guess they were serious...sad :(

Well like I said before they could be serious or they could be joking but I couldn't tell the difference though, even if it was a joke it was no laughing matter either way which is why it bothered me today which drove me to create this thread.

Those guys weren't Christians though.

Yes, but the fact that something may be a joke doesn't make it any less misogynist.

Likely it was just a joke, or some venting. Maybe his girlfriend dumped him. Doesn't make what he said true, just that he was venting (or joking).

No need to have a fret over it, walk up and hand the man some pro-worker pamphlets.

Misogyny and fundamentalism go hand in hand.

Eh being dumped is no excuse for sexism.

Being a "joke" doesn't absolve it of sexism

You mean you don't carry at least two dozen copies of Socialist Worker on you at parties? They make great bartering tools when you realize it's byob.

Every negative comment about a woman based on her gender identity is sexist. If you comment a woman in a negative way based oh her personality, behaviour etc., something that doesn't have to do with her gender identity then it's not sexist. I don't like it when some radical and liberal feminist take every criticism as sexist. There is a line.

Maybe they were drunk, which is just as bad.

Casual misogyny is tolerated in a way that casual racism would never be. Often hear 'lads' chatting about women in terms of how attractive they are ('dog' 'dyke' etc used for thes ones that don't conform to their standards, 'slut' ' slag' for ones that do, but who might not have sex with them).
Even when a woman is mean or stupid, using the term '*****' is quite misogynist (just say she was being stupid, no need to refer to her as 'that *****')
