Any freshers’ fair in the land will have one, two or more clots of far-leftists
competing for what amounts to the same constituency. The very fact of
this competition reduces the size of the constituency, of course, by making us all look a bit ridiculous.

That's a funny thing to say when half your paper consists of polemics against other groups.

Which is hardly surprising when you consider that it is a CPGB front.

Because I'm sure fresh faced students new to the world of left politics have the various differences betweem xyz trot groups as their primary concern...

The problem with student groups at university is that they will attract/not attract two kinds of students:

a) the first group will know about revolutionary politics enough to know whether a group is fronting for whomever, and will join/be put off accordingly.

b) the second group will not know that much, but will be keen, and will join a group not knowing whether they are trot, anarchist, M-L or whatever, and will thus not really be entering into a fair exchange, since the 'party' will have a knowledge premium over the student. To me, this is how the SWP have gotten a lot of their younger membership in recent years, which becomes blatantly obvious if you talk to many (but not all) of their cadre.

The Spartacist League sometimes comes on my campus. At first I didn't even notice them really. They would always be talking about the need for free on demand abortion, which made me think they were just a pro life group at first.

As for actually student communists, my thoughts are this: Not good. I don't know many, but most seem to have a very superficial level of knowledge and lack the desire to learn more.
