I wasted so much time on that game too. I think I got to level 127 when it was the maximum level, I also managed to get the highest possible hit back in the day (110 was confirmed as the highest possible hit, it was only achievable on very low hp with full dharoks and potions etc).

Nowadays you can find me playing Minecraft (I'm an exceptionally good builder) and League of Legends (I'm good at that too)

Oh dear gawd yes.
I had a summer where I probably played for most of the hours in the day, every day. I still play it from time to time for the lulz. I liked mining.

Wasn't that big in 2002?
Yeah, I never played it.
Diablo or bust.

If not for RuneScape, I'd probably never have become a communist.
I used to play RuneScape a lot, and then I ended up getting into the forums, which I never knew existed until I got membership. I got into the Rants section, which got me addicted to the internet, and I made a bunch of friends there. One of them was a communist who persuaded me to make a communist party thread for the lolz. It morphed into this huge THING (which still exists, I could find it for you...) which got me into communism until one day I decided it was best system. Lol. I still talk to a lot of the people I know from RuneScape, but I never play it.

I played it when I was about 12-13. I think my analysis of the Runescape economy's massive inflation was what got my interested in economics. When I finish capital I can't wait to apply the lessons within to video games.

The RS Communist Party had this serious(ish) plan going to "fix" RuneScape's economy.... through communism. It's pretty fucked up. I should find that forum thread and link it here.

Yeah, this. It's mostly tl;dr and for lolz, but it got a SHIT TON of supporters, I was really surprised.

Lol, somewhat funny but also interesting. Anything come of it?

Oh god, I remember the time back when 1 million was actually hard to get. I also remember when nobody knew what the gold limit was, because nobody had ever come close to it - everyone thought it was 999 million. I also remember when you could log on to RuneScape Classic without having logged on before.

I also remember when people had to use the forums to sell things, this was when I first realised how workers were exploited because I worked for a smithing business where the owner gave us loads of steel bars and we had to turn them in to cannonballs and in exchange we got 50% of the projected profit, he had like 30 people working for him and he got really rich.

I got up to about level 48 I think. Now and then i go back in to play but it doesn't sustain my interest since there's so much technical shit you have to relearn that isn't self-explanatory unless you start a new character.

Agree. They've overcomplicated the game way too much now.

I got to 127 on one account, but if I would have stuck with one account from the day I started playing to today, I would probably be in the first few pages of the hiscores.

I got flamed a lot. There are a lot of stupid capitalists on there who take it waaaaaay too seriously, they're funny to watch sometimes. Lol. I dunno exactly what the company thought of that thread, or if they even saw it (there have been Jagex people posting on the thread, but that doesn't mean they read any of it). Idk, I used to be really involved in that thread when the Rants forum was still there, but now I check in every few weeks to see how it's gone.

I used to. I was never a high level, but I did reach level 100 and had about a 20M cash pile plus items with most skills above 70 (and an agility above 90). The reason I stopped is because things just weren't that awesome anymore. Back in the pre-2007 days, with the old wilderness and all, everything was great. PKing was fun and fighting wasn't broken with dragon claws and other overpowered shit. In addition, the game didn't have all these protective measures - all of which I wouldn't shed a tear for, even the anti-scamming measures and such. In short, RS when I started playing (2005, I was pretty on and off though) had a great atmosphere. Last time I played, though, it no longer felt great in that way. The most "awesome" thing I enjoyed in 2011 were the quests. That's saying something. Not to mention that all the grinding I used to do had me burn out quickly and now I couldn't take more than a hour of anything. Well, suffice to say I won't be returning.

You're spot on.

The reason RuneScape 'died' is because they focused their target market on young teenagers, rather than gamers as a whole.

They took all the risk and fun out of the game and made everything way too easy.

I played RS before it was cool - well, actually, it's never been cool. Namely, 2002-2003.

It was "cool" in my area from around 2004-2006.

I remember that game. I played it when I was in 6th grade, so 2002-2003 I guess? I remember using an auto miner to get lots of shit. Then I got bored and moved on to other things.

I'm playing it right now.

As a side note - I got real excited when I realized "runescape" was somewhat of a portmanteau of "run" and "escape". I suppose it would have been for "rune" "scape" though...

oh man, you can connect and play with facebook

At my peak I had 7.6 bil including a red and purple partyhat. I was only level 90ish though... I hosted dice games and stuff.
