There has been a lot of threads recently about revolution in the US, occupy Wall st., etc. I've also noticed a lot of new members to Revleft are from the US. I'm wondering what percentage of members are from the US.

Yes, I'm from the United States, and as you can see I'm new here. I've been a radical for a month, but it doesn't have anything to do with the Occupy movement. So long as they think it's just a couple corrupt men on Wallstreet that is the problem, I don't' really see the protests going anywhere significant.

I think the majority of active users are from the US and the UK, with the UK slightly predominating. The Netherlands is probably in third place. When the UK riots occurred months ago there were about 8 or 9 threads on this, one of which got over 50 posts within a few hours. This is completely understandable, this took place where people lived. The same is true of the Occupy movement in the US. The Occupy protests seemed to have "energized" (I hate that term) people with an interest in left politics in the US.However amorphous and confused, there is an upsurge of class fightback.

It is actually funny if you take in account that the USA has over 300 mil inhabitants. The UK a bit over 60 mil and the Netherlands less than 17 mil. And in none of these three countries there seems to be a big amount of leftists in RL. Of course at least in the Netherlands virtually everyone has internet access, you couldn't even do your work for school without one. Still other European countries are probably also about as digitalized and they got a bigger population most of the time. Where are all the Germans, French etc.?

Many self-ascribed communists with internet access know revleft exists. They're just far too busy laughing at the pathetic forum dramas and the feeble keyboard warriors.

I can only remember a couple of French members, and for a site that is run by a German we have very few German members as well (compared to other large, Western countries).

Could it be language? I know most Europeans tend to be multi-lingual, but perhaps they prefer to spend their free internet time on sites in their native language. I've seen threads here in other languages, but predominately RevLeft is English.

As for keyboard warriors, that too is to be expected. I'll admit I haven't done any RL actions besides writing propaganda in a public area once. I'm fairly new to the far left though, I live in the middle of nowhere and I haven't found an organization I want to join yet. Once I live in a city I plan to get involved.

I think that's probably an important point. With the best will in the world, Nederlands wilkl never really be a 'world' language - sure, some people in Indonesia speak it, and Afrikaans is a dialect I suppose, but due to the relatively small size of the Dutch overseas empire, it never attained a status as an international language (half of Belgium doesn't count, anyway the Flemings and the Nederlanders just laugh at each others' pronunciation so I've heard). French and also German to a lesser extent were international languages so there's less reason I guess to go for English forums, I guess.

There won't be any revolution in the US for quite some time. For that you need millions (and the biggest Comparty there has like,40k members or less) and class consciousness.
Unless you consider socdems taking power as "revolution".

I Where are all the Germans, French etc.?
With the French I think the problem is definitely language, they don't tend to like speaking in English and tend to stick to French language forums. The Germans not so much I don't know why there aren't more Germans here. It would be great to have more countries represented here not only French, German but Italian, Spanish, pretty much every country in South and Central America seems to be under represented, there's also plenty of Asian countries which are under represented.

Personally I wouldn't mind getting rid of the rule of only English in the main forum. It may be a bit chaotic but I am more than willing to put in the effort of using google translate just to hear more opinions and converse with people from around the world.

I disagree, I'd go crazy if people were talking in all kinds of languages that I don't know. Google translate wouldn't be much help, because it often translates things wrongly and as a result the positive point of people being able to express themselves better in their own language becomes kinda void.

I would really be interested in knowing which "Comparty" in the US has 40,000 members, because I never heard that before, not since 1967, when I attended my first YSA class, as a undergraduate. The late Gus Hall's CPUSA, which specializes in "independent politics" within the Democratic Party, does not have tens of thousands of followers, as far as I know. If they did, I would think they would have a bigger presence. In the last 36 years, I have met exactly one CP'er, a tireless enthusiast for J.V. Stalin; he says he has difficulty finding other party members to pay his dues to, so that does not suggest the CP is a small mass party. But I could be wrong.

My impression is that the biggest organizations on the US left have maybe one thousand members each, and that's it. But if that is a mistaken, I would like to know.
