So the breakdown is...Portuguese(a lot), Unknown west african(some, assimilated slaves so I don't know their origin), Unknown brazilian indian(again mixed with whites and assimilated), and my biggest known ancestry 25% russian(granpa was russian)

Not that it matters though, I am human and that is awesome enough for me. :)

These things are always bullshit. On American forms Native Americans south of Alaska have a box, Native Americans in Alaska have a box, and Pacific Islanders get a box despite the fact that many are descended from the same group of people as Native Americans, while those in the Western Pacific are Polynesian. One box for Black, One for White. Hispanic-ness is checked separately.

One box for Asian.

So a Turk, a Russian, a Tamil, a Sephardic Jew, a Pashtun, a Thai, a Vietnamese, and a Japanese are all "Asian." If you're an Australian Aborigine or an African Arab you apparently don't exist.

Point is, the real point of the poll is to see how inclusive RevLeft is of people who are not Western and Anglo.

Ethnicity for statistical purposes should be done by what others perceive you as. Americans won't distinguish between an Italian and a Bulgarian, while a Brit might. Hence, for America you just get "White". If we were worrying about facts we should check almost all of them. WIthin my known family I'm a sixteenth Algonquin. Good chance there's some black mixed at some point from my Sicilian background. Don't forget the fact that many mainland Europeans have Jewish blood from before the anti-Semitic laws and racial categorization that rose in the Middle Ages.

When I said "Aryan" I meant on Nazi classification. Originally my German part of family is from Munchen and Slovakia and they came to Croatia in late 19th century. During the WW2 my grandmother was a student in Zagreb and in order to be student in Independent State of Croatia she was forced to get her "ancestors examined" and then she got certificate which says that she's an Aryan because she had "pure blood". Few days ago I found that document. She was not a Nazi, just a German living in Croatia, and her husband (my grandfather) was a commandant/commissar in Yugoslav partisans (of course, they met after the war). My grandgrandfather from other side and his brothers were also classified as Aryans, since they were recuted in Werhmacht to fight partisans in Bosnia (my grandgranfather deserted right from the beginning and even he wasn’t even in a war he was sent to a concentration camp by Yugoslav partisans after the war just because he was a German).

Cullah'd power? Power of the cullah'd people? A phrase I heard all together too much of when I grew up in the south.

That's what the white racists said when they didn't feel quite polite enough to say "Negro" and too polite to use their favorite expression for the "colored people."

Actually I've heard (I'm just starting to get into paleoanthro.) that some scientists (if it isn't the main opinion) think H-Sapien never interbred with H-Neanderthal or that if they did it would be like a mule, un(in?)fertile.

But yeah interesting stuff

Actually that's backwards. The African gene pool is purer homo sapiens, and it's in Europe and Asia that you have the occasional Neanderthal gene in there in considerably greater frequency. None of any particular consequence that scientists have yet been able to identify--like most genes.

Don't know about the Americas, but my guess would be that since folks in the America got there by way of Siberia, the same would apply.

It's popular because it's a hilarious show. I think the writers are slightly left of liberals too which is more than you usually get on TV

Huh? The writers are Republican conservatives, and have never been at all secretive about that. You think all that Saddam Hussein is the devil stuff is all tongue and cheek? It's not, except insofar as everything in the show is.

They're sophisticated and cynical about it, and brighter than Bush Jr., who no doubt they voted for anyway.

Just check out their new Broadway play about the Mormons in Africa, which practically oozes white racism.
