Hi, I am a communist and an anarchist from Oregon (West coast USA). I've been lurking here for about a month or so, and am always interested in learning, especially concerning leftist matters. I've read the Manifesto and am currently working my way through Capital and David Harvey's Companion to Marx's Capital. That's about it!

Welcome to the forum!
Why would you consider yourself both a communist and an anarchist?

Anarcho-communism? :D It's not exactly mutually exclusive.
Welcome Ruin! I should really follow your lead and read the Capital, hah. I tend to gravitate towards somewhat lighter pieces of theory.

Because anarchism is communism. So is what is known as "Marxism". Communism being a term used to describe the socialist ideology of the working class, as opposed to the socialisms of the bourgeois, etc. as detailed in the Manifesto.
Anyhow, welcome to the OP. I hope you gain something from your time here.

I believe in communist economics and social libertarianism without the presence of a hierarchy in society, and I believe both ideologies can be implemented at the same time. Communism, liberating the working class, would be pointless without also promoting the civil liberties of the liberated. Likewise, anarchy without economic equality would result in capitalism and survival of the greediest and most forceful. There's a quote along those lines somewhere...
