A most interesting topic from the KFA forums: http://www.korea-dpr.com/cgi-bin/simplefor...c_id=1067625246 (http://www.korea-dpr.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum.cgi?fid=1&topic_id=1067625246)
On this day, for the first time, all children in Norway have officially assimilated and absorbed the american traditional custom of "Halloween" and is practising the art and tradition on a massive scale, even if there were no such tradition in Norway.
On past years, only very few people have celebrated this holiday in the american way.
This year, massive advertising from commercial entities like toy stores and costume stores have succeeded in convincing the local population to adopt this tradition to the full extent in an excuse to increase sales profits.
This is a perfect example of cultural imperialism designed to influence and subdue local history and tradition, and replacing them with the degradation of traditions into a commercial festivity with emphasis on comsumerism and plastic-values.
Many of the newly imported cultural effects (like masks, costumes, lanterns) are made solely from plastic, which is artificial and sterile, thus desensitizing new generations with impersonal low quality use-once-and-throw-away garbage consumerism culture.
A perfect way to make yet another holiday commercial, and to promote imperialistic cultural values which are bad for the environment, psychologically alienated, culturally shallow, intellectually empty, and effectively artificial and man-made from the interest of vendors and commercialists.
