How many of you guys know about "Buy Nothing Day?"

I heard about it the other day, while talking with my social awareness club at collge.

I think its a great idea.

Although, every day for me is pretty much Buy Nothing Day. I only spend money on bus fare to go to and from school;)

"Buy Nothing Day" is something for people with money...not us.

It's supposed to ease their conscience...like buying a Christmas turkey for a poor family.

Just as they are indifferent to what that poor family will eat on the next 364 days, you can be sure that after November 28th, they will "shop 'till they drop".

What else do they have to fill up their lives?

Hmmm...Redstar, I never thought about that!

It seems logical too, as Capitalists are always looking for a way to feel good about themselves.

The 'buy nothing' part of it doesn't seem very logical, but the demonstrations and such.. will hopefully raise awareness.
They're planning to put commercials on CNN and the radio, and in previous years, there were some protests in the streets... people vomitting in malls so people would leave them, people passed out leaflets on the issue and stuff like that..

I think they should forget about the concept of not buying anything, and just simply raise awareness so people will actually know why they aren't stuffing themselves... I think the rallies were/will be quite well planned.

If there really was a Buy Nothing Day, that would include utilities and services. They could re-name it Amish Day, and then it could be considered insensitive and politically incorrect. Then it would be banned. Then we could use that fact that we are having capitalism forced on us.

Screw being politically correct. Amish Day it is. Stock up on ice for your fridge.

And I think you're right about making rich cappies feel better.
