I was just wondering something about eco-villages and if my views are acceptable, from my knowledge I've collected from several sites of eco-villages and wikipedia. I support eco-villages as a healthy lifestyle and for people who wish to be more apart of nature, I believe even futurists and primitivists can co-exist (I strongly disagree with many of the violent actions of some primitivist people and organizations although I believe it is completely alright if they want to live away from the main stream government as long as they are safe and no one is being harmed.
My definition of an eco-village is a community of 10-500 people with more larger branches being of 1000-1500 people and relying on the land, farming and the eco-village community itself rather than the main larger cities. From what I've noticed there seems to be different intensities of eco-villages from relying on farming and electricity, to only farming and barely only electronics, to living 10 miles on a small settlement in the middle of a forest.
I support progress and I do not in anyway identify with primitivism.
If you have any different views of this please enlighten me as well as these views are subject to change at any time.

If people wanna live in remote eco-villages, that's fine. I don't really care about people's private lifestyles as long as they fully consent.

However, I think that's all eco-villages can be: lifestyle choices. The second someone goes from wanting to live in an eco-village to politically advocating for everyone to live in them is where I personally draw the line, and where I begin to see them as reactionaries.

It's kinda like with religion, really. I could care less what you personally believe in, but preaching and proselytizing should be considered reactionary behavior.

So as long as it is voluntary and technology isn't demonized I see no reason why to oppose this.

Yup, nothing wrong with a bit of eco-friendliness.

If it doesn't mean subsistence agriculture and "fuck off!" to the exportation of food to the cities, then it's OK. But it's utopian to think it will change society or, even worse, destroy capitalism.

Eco-villages are not farms though, they are not to fuel the world. Its just a lifestyle choice that is all, people seem to think even a small amount of people supporting something all "think" the same thing about something and stereotype it. Some small eco-villages choose to rely on agriculture or more or less, they are not crazy advocates preaching about how we should all live in eco-villages and change the world. There is nothing wrong with people doing that but I hate when people see some people do something and somehow think that everyone of that group or even opinion thinks the same thing. Its completely voluntary and technology is not demonized.

Normally, but on some they do follow crazy ideas.
But as the others said nothing wrong with the right kind of eco-villages.:)
