When watching a TV program about Bob Marley, the program briefly addressed the movment/religion of Rastafarianism. It stated that the movment, was rather chauvanistic in nature, and that the woman was supposed to provide for the man comfort etc. While he brought in income etc.

I was wondering if this was true, or whether it was bullshit, and as the program was brief on this subject to say the least, could anyone expand upon it.

Many thanks.

As it says in the article, the situation is getting better, but women were definitely treated badly back in the seventies and before. Women weren't even allowed to smoke weed under the religion up until the eighties.

Rastafarianism is nonsense.

hmm it doesnt look good...

That site had an interesting quote: -

"One of the early Rastafarian preachers, Leonard Howell, described six fundamental tents of Rastafarianism:-
hatred for the White race;
the superiority of the Black race;
revenge on Whites for their wickedness;
the negation, persecution, and humiliation of the government and legal bodies of Jamaica;
preparation to return to Africa;
acknowledgment of Emperor Haile Selassie I as the supreme being and the only ruler of the Black people. "

Doesnt that remind you of Zionism?

Leonard Howell was a power crazed madman, he ended up in a mental asylum in 1954.
Before that he had declared himself and not Selassie as the divine living god and called himself Gangunguru Maragh (Hindi, translated as "Teacher of Famous Wisdom, King of Kings").

He's not really a serious representation of what the religion represents.

Isn't Rasta strongly linked with Zionism. I saw in a Bob Marley clip the DavidStar flashing a few times in the screen.

Both Rastafarianism and Judeaism are based on the Old Testament the similarities are pretty extensive at the core.

Maybe because they both advocate the return to the homeland (Israel or Africa.) Same kind of thing, return to Zion. I really have no idea but I've heard this before too.

Rastafarianism like other religions has no real baring, as per there is no God. This religion did however provide hope of freedom and equality to an oppresed people. It did its job to bring spirits up and give people an example on how to live.

Considering I despise vanity I dont look in mirrors very often, and when I do look in a mirror I see me.
