Where do these figures come from? Should they not be referenced? However, I agree it is disgusting!

The 475:1 for the US was referenced (along with a couple others) in Sam Harris' "Letter to a Christian Nation." IIRC it was from another book. This one was a picture posted on facebook.

Well, that one's comparing it to minimum wage - the average worker (at least for now) still makes more than minimum wage most places (and I think min wage is over $7 an hour now - still way too low obviously.)

$7.25 is the Federal minimum wage per hour, and some states and municipalities have a higher minimum (Washington State at $8.67 is the highest in the country). A recent study posited that $16 per hour would represent an actual living wage, so, yes, the minimum is far below that.
