View Full Version : Capitalism (University assessment)

I am currently studying graphic design/visual communication at uni and I was given a brief to find a problem in the community and fix it somehow.(organisations, campaigns etc). I believe most of the problems myself and other classmates are fixing are because of capitalism. Basically charities etc is what they want, which I somewhat disagree with.
So I want to do my assessment on capitalism and the problems it causes and why it causes them. I don't think my teacher will particularly agree but I don't really mind, I was probably going to fail this semester for disagreeing what was being taught in most classes anyway.

Problem is, I have left it really late, I only just started learning myself why capitalism causes these problems, so I am basically asking for assistance. It's due in 11 days and I have to do the research then create the campaign, a poster for it, write up, applications and then a 10 minute presentation along with 2 other classes assessments.

The campaign would be an initiative for people to research into local and world problems. Why the problems are here, not how to fix the surface problems that are here. (poverty, homeless, health support, environmental destruction, education costs etc)

I'm not going to promote socialism but I can use it as kind of a basis of what things could be? (It's solutions to capitalism). I would be too comfortable in a classroom promoting socialism to most likely uninterested or ehh classmates and like I said I've only just started reading into it more.

Problem is, the issue is fucking massive and so complex, but If I try to keep it as much of a "research why the problems are around!" campaign I can possibly get away with only brief information on each problem but raise enough problems for people to take notice and understand even slightly why I I chose to do it.

Might be too big of a task and quite a stupid idea but I just lost close to 10k to a private college and 9 months of my year because my college promotes mass consumerism, advertising to kids, corporations etc and never tells anyone the problems with supporting these things and at the moment I would rather show my disagreement then just go along with things or drop out completely and be seen as the lazy, negative one.

I'm all over the place at the moment and reread this so many times it now probably only makes sense to me sorry!

Any help over the next 10 days would be greatly appreciated!

I think it would maybe be easier/better to encourage workers to organize, and your teacher would probably like it more than the straight-up anti-capitalism thing.
