Once i told someone i was a communist, thier reaction was 'how can you be when you support Manchester United?'

I was stummped!! I really had no answer.

To anyone that doesnt know what Manchester United is, well its a football team (thats soccer to the americans) a very succesful one at that, and one of the richest in the world, usually making in excess of over a 100 million pound a year. As a company they are worth over a billion pound. The players are payed upto £100,000 for little over 90 miniutes work a week!
A fine example of capitilism in full swing.

Im from manchester n ive followed them since i was 2. But how can i if im a communist and it also poses the question...

How does sport fit into communism?

- i really have no idea

Why do people ask such silly questions? They play baseball in Cuba don't they? I'm still waiting for a thread with a topic like "Masterbation: Is there a place for it after revolution?" <_<

Sport is a part of colture...
In communism, sport will be more common, pure and supported by the masses.
Since people now will work less, and have more time for upgrading society's values, and extremely supporting human's colture, we will have lots of lots of good sport! (especially hockey!). Ofcurse, the salaries in communism would be useless, since money will have no value anymore.
There is nothing wrong to be a fan, of let's say for example - Manchester United, the one who argued you with that just wanted to annoy you.
Myself, I'm for The Mighty Duck of Anahein, in NHL...

son of rage, i apologise, i now realise that the question may be interpreted like that.
I never thought sport wouldnt be in communism but, its just how will it work? would the players have normal jobs during the week? if so when would they train etc?

how would teams buy and sell players, i mean would all the teams have the same money, to keep things equal?

I know it may seem silly, and irrelivant but to what extent would communism be applied to sports?
Sport is competitive, and like in capitalism its about the individual succeding (in sport the individual teams) where communism is about unity and working together for the better of all, which kind of eliminates the competitive edge.

Since the aspects of money won't be in communism, trading players won't be availble, so if a player wants to move to another team it depends on his will and on the other team's will. Competition for that matter, would be more by the love of the game, since the communist colture would be more valued by her circle.
Players could practice as long as they like, or obeyed by their moral contract with their team.

This is not a silly question! It is important for us to see how would colture look like in communism (sport is a a part of our colture).
What's funny, I asked exactly the same question to a comrade in my organization, three months ago... ;)

Oh, I misunderstood you :D In a lot of ways, sports have some socialistic features to them. In the US, the NFL and the NBA have salary caps and some revenue sharing so that one team with lots of money can't just dominate the sport year after year.

There are only two real sports. Fencing and simulated warfare. Everything else is just a game.

Organised sport would proably continue along amature lines under communism/anarchism. The idea of going for a team just 'cause they're from you country would proably be done away with.
