I've never been able to properly express my misgivings about Nolan as a film maker because usually what he gets wrong is so subtle and basic it's impossible to put into words. Don't get me wrong he is a good film maker, but a lot of his movies seem crowded and poorly edited. I think this 20 minute break down of the car chase in The Dark Knight shows that while Nolan can deliver pretty consistently on an epic scale, he sometimes forgets about the basics with disastrous results.

If you've ever taken a film or tv production course in high school or at the college level one of the first things you do is practice setting up shots with 180 degree lines on paper. You also learn the basic shots (long, medium, close up ect.) and how to transition from one to the other effectively.

I can't remember much of Inception, I'm actually going to rewatch it tonight to see if I can't pick out some mistakes, but TDK always gives me this feeling of agitation simply because the way it is edited fucks with my spatial reasoning.

Inception was pretty good. I hate how some people think the concept is SO AWESOME AND ORIGINAL, though...those people have obviously never seen films like Cronenberg's eXistenZ, which I watched recently.
