I heard the pic was taken after some counter revolutionaries blew up a boat and Che was mourning at it

I belive the picture was taken on March 5 1960.
The day before a freighter called La Coubre docked in Havana and was filled with belgian arms. Somehow they ignited, Fidel claimed it was by the CIA, up to a hundred died, loads injured.
Some tried to stop Che from boarding the ship, but he did anyway, sayin "Damnit, dont fuck with me!"
The funeral cortege was the next day, later Fidel and others including Che, stood on a balcony to give speeches.
As Che stepped forward, and look across the crowd, a young Cuban photographer called Alberto Korda, took his picture.
The picture wasnt published until after Ches death, and untill 1999 Korda did not use the copyright laws he was entitled to, hence the T-shirts n so on.

That famous photo has been used in a Smirnoff Vodka ad! They also co-opt the sickle and hammer... This would infuriate Che, I am sure!
