As a survivor of a US jail, I absolutely adore this poster.

Note the lack of ~shocking~ imagery of police and prisons, note the lack of objectifying statistics.

Note the acknowledgement of the way jails exacerbate existing mental health issues, both in theory (explicitly stated on the poster) and in practice (in the choice of non-triggering imagery and presentation stated above).

This is pretty much the first prison abolition poster I've ever seen that didn't trigger the hell out of me. I haven't been able to touch prison abolition activism with a ten foot pole because of that, but I feel like if I were in Victoria instead of Rhode Island, I'd be able to work with this group and I thought I'd show you all because I really, really want to see more things like this.

Brilliant. I live in Melbourne, Victoria so I'm definitely going to use this somewhere, sometime...

This beautiful A2 poster was put out by the Centre for the Human Rights of Imprisoned People (CHRIP) Working Group. It is aimed predominantly at linking community organisations to the movement for decarceration and the abolition of prisons. If you want to get a hold of one of these pretty posters, especially if you work in a community organisation, then get in contact with squaresome (http://squaresome.tumblr.com), ourcatastophe (http://www.ourcatastrophe.tumblr.com) or str-crssd. They are also available for sale ($4) at the New International Bookshop (http://www.newinternationalbookshop.org.au/) at Trades Hall in Melbourne. Also a printable version should be on the CHRIP website ("http://www.chrip.org.au) soon…

CHRIP is a project of Flat Out (http://www.flatout.org.au).
