Today my mom was driving me home from school (I don't have a car), and a policeman pulled us over for a cracked windshield. He was speaking to my mom, and then he saw me in the car and started to interrogate her about me and my relation to her, and then asked for my ID. I am not completely sure, but I have a hunch that his asking for my ID was motivated by my race.
My mom is White, but I am not, and since it is an impossibility for a White woman to give birth to a mixed-race child, it might have looked like I was an immigrant she was illegally transporting.
Since I cannot read the policeman's thoughts, I have no proof he was suspicious of me because of my race. In fact, with recent laws passed in my state, I'm not even sure it would make a difference. But the fact remains that if the policeman did use discrimination, his actions were at least morally wrong.
Anyway, I wanted to write the police station a letter of complaint, but I would really like to remain anonymous. I know they will probably figure out who I am based on the description of the account, but being a timid person, I want to avoid being confronted by the police about my complaint. I just want to leave a them a letter and forget about it.
Also, what if they find my complaint to be false? According to the site (I can't post links since I don't have enough posts, but it's at the Arizona Department of Public Safety website), false reports result in criminal charges, and I don't want to risk going to jail for a making dumb complaint.
I know it seems like I'm making a big deal out of nothing, but what if I didn't have my ID with me? Surely, he wouldn't have let us leave, and we would have ended up in his car.
