The former military glory of this nation is a great source of national pride. (National pride, of course, being the bourgeois construct intended to reinforce the sentiment that we the British people cannot survive without the British ruling class and state.) These cultural references to British military prowess are to be expected following cuts in defence spending and international concerns regarding how much of this prowess has been lost. Think of it as kind of a contingency plan to keep us on their side.
The defence of the Falkland Islands was cited as one area of vulnerability.
Air Commodore Andrew Lambert said the "British public is not aware of how thin the ice is … or how bad things could get."
Why should the British public give one solitary shit about whether or not the Falklands remain under the dominion of the British state?
Drunk post; apologies if it makes less sense than intended.

I've noticed this myself. Patriotism is a favourite of governments during tough economic times, used in order to foster sympathy amongst the working class for the government and other rich, powerful "elites", as well as attempting to fill the workers with nationalistic nonsense to make them forget that many are unemployed, many can barely afford to pay their bills and the cuts are going to be deepest in the flesh of the thin working class individual, rather than the fat flesh of the rich.

Yeah, i started seeing a lot more propaganda in the programing schedules in the past 3 months. I'm not surprised since there are bad times headed here, this shitty government is running a muck. All the better for the revolution i guess, but still >.>

I've noticed it too... there's one about the Navy, one about Soldiers leaving for Afghanistan and probably some others on channels I don't get or couldn't care for. I hardly watch TV, nobody I know really watches TV any more either. I only tend to watch Dispatches if the topic seems interesting, there's been a few Football corruption ones on lately, I couldn't give two shits about them.

No, but that's probably cos I hardly watch any television. Though I did see that program advertised on Gadaffy which I thought was hypocritical as fuck.
However, when the crisis first started in 2008/9 there were programs about how to save money by making your own whatever and how to shop cheaply and so on i.e accept lower wages and so on just stretch what little you have. Quite disgusting at the time I thought.
