So, a couple of thoughts:
Undoubtedly, there is a correlation between the costs to governments (of cancer treatment/drugs) and the profits of pharmaceutical companies.
But also, are we about to see neo-liberalism extend its claws into the realm of cancer treatment and prevention? Will this be used as a prelude to 'cuts' in 'unaffordable' cancer treatments?
Neo-liberalism seems to be entering its imperial epoch whereby it extends its influence into areas outside of normal economics; neo-liberalism's story is much like Capitalisms - it cuts and cuts (read exploits and exploits) until it runs out of services to cut (people to exploit) and has to begin a period of extreme cuts (begin a period of imperialist ventures to solve the scarcity problem).
