View Full Version : How to be a better Communist?

So, i'm not a very good Communist. I'm still quite young "21" but live at home with my parents and am currently going to college. Ive never really been a member of the working class unless you count being a cashier for a year. What can I do to be a more contributing member of the Communist Party? I also play video-games, which is more than likely considered a bourgeous activity, though one I am not willing to give up.

Sounds like you're doing fine
Except you need to pray to Engels for forgiveness of sins and the second coming of Marx.
Just keep on learning dude ;)

what you do in your spare time is absoloutly up to you, if you have fun with video games(check out the "what are you playing" thread to see how many others here do that too) then have fun with it.
besides that what broletariat said.

are you a member of a communist party? well if you want to contribute meet up with other members and discuss what you can do.

To reiterate, communism is not a lifestyle choice. Whether you're a student, unemployed or pensioner then you are a member of the working-class.

Derail trains and carbomb embassies...No I'm joking DO NOT DO THAT!
I would suggest finding like-minded people and simply having discussions. These discussions may eventually lead to actions. You do not need to be a member of a party to be a communist. Talk with your friends, talk to local workers, spread ideas. Agitate and educate.
o well this is ok I guess

You have to play every Red Faction game put out.
It's to prepare you for the imminent revolution.

Organize, educate (which includes educating yourself), and agitate. As long as you're doing at least one of those things, you're not a "bad" communist.

If your going to college, you could always try to join in any organizations already in place there which are fighting for a worthy cause (i.e. against budget cuts, against Israeli imperialism, all the sort of popular ones with liberal activists that usually exist on campuses). If your school has a socialist group present, then I would certainly trying to join that.
If not, you could always try to get a few like minded comrades together to start one. Even if you get just a few people together on a weekly basis to discuss current events from a Marxist perspective, to talk about revolutionary theory, or to disseminate some socialist literature, you've already helped to bring the struggle to your campus. Student activism may not be at the heart of the workers movement, but it can certainly augment it to a powerful effect.
But yeah, if you might be interested in trying to set something like that up, feel free to private message me with any questions/concerns. I also started a topic on this question which has seen a good deal of very useful advice and even some documents posted to it that I've found very helpful in my own endeavors, a lot of which could potentially be very useful.

If you are looking for involvement on a larger scale, you could always get in touch with a national/international organization and talk to them about joining or starting a branch in your area if one doesn't already exist. Another poster has started to work on an index of leftist parties as compiled by revleft users, I'm sure you could find a party which matches up with your ideals/tendency and contact information there.

Learn more about yourself. What are your strengths, what can you contribute to your community and society as a whole that might make a difference? Plus the whole bad vs good communist isn't really 'real', it's not a competition. Be proud of who you are.

Physical fitness plays a huge role. Work as much as you can with your hands. Study the enemy, be aware of your surrounds, get out among the proletariat, make it happen.

(2) There is no Communist Party for you to be a contributing member of that you would want to join. (The CPUSA supports Obama.)
(3) Enjoy your video games.
(4) Hang around this site, ask questions and learn.
(5) Read a lot.
(6) If there is an occupation near you, get involved and let us know what's happening.
(7) Relax. There will be no revolution before the weekend.

There's really no measure to how 'good' of a Communist you are, only to how much you let it make up your identity and personality. I used to be a big gamer too, like serious competitive gamer that would stay up all night yelling and trying really hard to win the game. The thing about gaming is it detaches you from reality, it's just another opium of the people in my opinion. So I sold the xbox, got rid of the water pipe, cut back on how much soda I drank, started taking school a lot more seriously, and focusing more on my reading and doing research on things that are relevant to my interests. And I have never looked back.
But seriously, be your own person and do what ever you want, except for exploiting labor. Don't do that.
