Fucking hypocrites:

Why is Obama Selling Weapons to the King of Bahrain While Hes Attacking Pro-Democracy Protestors?

Geopolitics and economics trump human rights and democracy in Bahrain, where the oil-based kingdom, led by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, has spent months cracking down on protesters and dissidents and now is being rewarded with American military hardware from Washington.

The Department of Defense officially notified Congress on September 14 that 44 armored Humvees and hundreds of missiles are being sold to Bahrain for $53 million. It is the first sale of military equipment to Bahrain since it began attacking demonstrators earlier this year, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

This is exactly the wrong move after Bahrain brutally suppressed protests and is carrying out a relentless campaign of retribution against its critics, said Maria McFarland, deputy Washington director for HRW. It will be hard for people to take US statements about democracy and human rights in the Middle East seriously when, rather than hold its ally Bahrain to account, it appears to reward repression with new weapons.

Bahrainis took to the streets in large numbers beginning in February and demanded democratic reforms. What they got in return was volleys of gunfire from security forces that killed seven people and wounded hundreds of others. The next month the government declared a state of national safety, with more deaths (20) and thousands more arrested.

In its notification to lawmakers, the Pentagon said the sale of weapons will contribute to American foreign policy and national security by helping to improve the security of a major non-NATO ally that has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.

In addition to being a loyal OPEC ally, Bahrains ruling family has allowed the United States Fifth Fleet to be based in their country, providing the U.S. Navy with an optimal location in the strategically-vital Persian Gulf region.

Since the U.S. overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003, Bahrain has been left as the last nation with a Shia majority and a Sunni ruler.

The main contractors who will profit from the weapons sales to the King of Bahrain are AM General in South Bend, Indiana, and Raytheon Missile Systems Corporation in Tucson, Arizona.

Political stability? Bahrain? Has Obama completely lost his mind? Or rather, does he really think that the the viewers are that stupid?

But yeah, Obama's actions make a lot more sense if you take into account that Bahrain has:

a) lots of oil (something to which American capitalists are drawn like moths to a flame)
b) a US naval base (5th fleet)
c) an important strategic position against Iran (it's just across the Persian Gulf)

A couple years ago when the Thai Red shirts were put down violently, what were the Thai soldiers carrying? M-16's (or whatever new-fangled version of it).

Bang on.

It is in America's interests to keep the current government of Bahrain in power for those exact reasons, which is why they are supplying weapons to them.

What are you talking about? It's so obvious America is interested in the spread of freedom over the entire region!

I believe it's "The last capitalist we hang will be the one that sold us the rope". But I'm not 100% feel free to correct me.

Bahrains income comes from many sources such as Banking, Tourism but mainly Fuel Processing and Production. In 2004 the US signed the US-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement. This meant that the US would then recieve massively reduced prices on oil from Bahrain. So relations with this country are excellent from a US Capitalist perspective.

Obama is simply selling weapons to this country like he was working at a fruit stall. Its naive to even think for two seconds that the US Government has even the slightest respect for the people of ANY nation and are only concerned with getting their hands on the resorces of that nation whist trying to prevent outside nations from getting their hands on US resorces. Its a form of modern Imperialism.

Is this news true?
What the..... They are supposed to be just mediators since it's not their own business.. They are making the situation worse... These are the kind of people not to trust with your life.. Our country is dependent with these kind of leaders.. I just don't understand why they are so overly praising these leaders when in fact we have all the riches in the world..
