I really liked the book the giver. It spoke to me. I named my self the, to be a part of the books title, but that's sort of irrelevant, How do you feel about the book the giver?

I read it like 8 years ago, I think the politics in it are really vague and could be easlliy interperted to be for or against any political system,

Actually it was one of the reasons I became interested in the left, before I swung right. Don't worry, I'm sane now .

You think so? From what I remember there was a council that made political decisions and there was no money. Then again, I did read it about a decade ago.

It's been ages since I read it as well. From what I remember it seemed to give an apolitical anti-totalitarianism premise.

The whole political system was considered to be evil that was the whole point they made everyone work and shit and drained all the color out of life, etc. Hence the reason that he has the dreams they are full of color thus an attack on collectivism on a very simplistic level. It didn't outright say Individualism FTW! or anything but there were some obvious attacks on collectivism as the society was highly collective to the point of hyberbolic nonsense. It has been a while but I do remember that the dreams he was given were full of color and made him realize you could have fun or something I don't even remember I found it only ok as a child.
