So the most active organizations in my area are Socialist Alternative and Amnesty International. I know that there are some Revlefters involved in SA but I'm not sure if I've ever seen anything about AI on here. It looks like they try to define themselves in the most vague way possible, saying they're not affiliated with any ideology or economic ideas, and that's odd to me. What are your thoughts on Amnesty International from a revolutionary leftist point of view?

I've only met two people who have been involved with them. One was Rosa Clemente and from I heard her say she seems to be on the more radical end and she seemed to criticize them for not wanting to take or back more radical actions. Though I don't know what her politics are like outside of the fact she was the green party vice presidential candidate. The other person was involved with them in high school and wanted to start up a chapter here, but she seemed like a harmless liberal tbh.

I find Amnesty to be a very good source of information on human rights throughout the world. They may not be socialist, and don't identify with an establisted theory, but as a pure research institute, it is very informative.

I was involved with AI in high school. A lot of what they do is pretty good, but they're a very 'liberal' organization.

Co-sign.
They deserve credit for leading the fight around Troy Davis (RIP). Sometimes liberal groups do good work.

My mother was an active member of Amnesty for many years. Good people, despite their liberalism.
Once she recieved threat letters from the Swedish - Cuban friendship association, after writing an article on human rights abuses in Cuba. :D

I respect them for what they do and they definitely pull considerably more weight than most revolutionary groups combined when it comes to raising awareness about various issues of abuse and oppression. Of course, given their liberalism, I am not a full supporter by any means, but they're a good group to have around for addressing immediate issues. I feel the same way about them as I do the Southern Poverty Law Center. In spite of the SPLC's denunciation of militant anti-fascism, I gotta respect them for laying the legal smackdown on racist/fascist groups, which they are pretty damn good at.
