My college cultural anthropology class has a creationist in it. She told me "why dont they just evolution as what it is, a guess" I was like, what the fuck! but i didn't say anything lest i start a fight in class. I also had a person in my sociology class tell me homeless people are homeless because they fucked up and didn't seize opportunity in society. Also he went on to state a huge percentage of homeless people are lazy, crazy, drug addicts.
I quickly stood up (literally) and slashed his argument and to the ground, but i think i should of just gotten up and punched him square in the face for being a fucking moron.
Though id share that with you guys.

Sickening to hear such reactionary views, but you did the right (though less fun) thing by demolishing the guy's theory instead of his face.

That's the exact reason I never share my opinions with anyone I don't know well, people are so brainwashed to hate anything that isn't ultra-conservative.
Both the people you argued with sound like idiots.

Good for you for tearing the guy's argument apart - the problem with kicking his ass is he'd probably start spewing shit like how you stomped on his freedom of speech.
Unless of course he starts getting worse and worse, then I don't care what you do with him.

It is a college class. There will always be a couple of idiots. I'm double majoring in history and anthropology atm, and I would say just deal with them for now. They won't be as common later on as they are so utterly illogical and don't fit well with good classes.
o well this is ok I guess

Dude that's sort of what it means to be in any 100 or 200 level class.
You gotta put up with people who aren't actually in the class for any reason. You know, minor students and general degree students.
At the higher levels you'll find some fairly disagreeable views, but almost never will they be so absurd.
Although don't take my word for it, as my experience with post-secondary is almost entirely composed of sneaking into class, rather than actually being enrolled.

anthropology.
WHY THE HELL IS A CREATIONIST STUDYING ANTHROPOLOGY!?
Also, there could be a racist or two in your class, it's common amongst anthropologists from my experience.

I met this girl who was a history major and actually had her degree and was hella cute and nice and had good taste in music and then told me she thought Hitler was great and if another Hitler was running for president she would vote for him

Exactly. How can a creationist be in an anthro class when most ancient civilizations had risen and fallen long before "God" allegedly created the earth?

She sounds like she was fucking psycho. I hear people say Hitler had "positive aspects", but to actually say they would vote for him is soooooo fucking crazy....

I'm looking forward to University, because everyone there has strong opinions on everything, it's a great chance to have some debates and maybe even convert a few people. ;)

Would that be like stomping on his face?
The only reason that creationist is in the anthro class because its a 101, shes going for nursing i think.
Its a 2 year college, my first semester and i'm allready enjoying/hating arguing with these morons. My sociology professor is pretty much Brian Griffen from family guy, and it just makes me laugh to hear his spineless liberal self talk about needing to vote in the right democratic candidate so America can get back on track...

Agreed, I know my general courses have been painful with the amount of stupid comments made. I still think the best question ever asked was, "Do islands float?" My jaw almost literally hit the floor and I had to bite my tongue from giggling.

Man, I complain about the liberal hippie-types at my school, but I guess I'm lucky to be stuck with them instead of creationists.
I've been to a more "normal" community college too though, so I feel your pain. Every day I would leave my political philosophy class angry.

Thinking it was a joke I pointed out Hitler is dead and is not an American citizen and then she began going on about how Obama makes people ashamed to be American and I began to drink my drink faster as the realization that she was serious crept in.

I have met people just like that in my Major. History tends to attract all kinds of strange folks like myself but the Hitler fanatics are probably the most disturbing.

Depends on the lecture I know I caused some eyebrows to raise when I cackled and thought the stabbing of Frick to be an excellent use of ones time. Strike Break that you fuck. Oh how I miss Intro American History courses especially when you reach the rapid Industrialization post-Civil War.

I think you must have history confused with psychology. In my experience, most people who major in the latter don't do so out of a willingness to help others, it's because they wanna figure out what's wrong with themselves, lol.
Anyway, OP, dare I say Black Magick Hustla's more or less on point with this one. You're gonna have to deal with a lot of dingbats at college, especially at a CC. It's best not to get yourself too worked up over this or that knucklehead lest you give yourself a coronary before you hit grad school. Just shred their opinions in classroom discussions and leave it at that.
As an aside, I feel compelled to mention an incident in a 100 Western Civ course I took once. We got to the part of the class where Darwin's Origin was discussed and some fundie in the front of the room said something to the effect of, "I don't know what the big deal about Darwinism is. There's just so many holes in the theory." So my professor looks at him and flies into a rage, "What holes? Where?" The kid starts to stammer... So my professor interjects, this time even louder, "Look, until you've actually read the work, you can't have an opinion about it. My advice to you is to stop listening to whatever idiot of a preacher you have been because he doesn't know what he's talking about. In the meantime, pick up a book or two that isn't the Bible and stop talking nonsense in my classroom." Needless to say, it was epic.:thumbup1:

I don't understand the logic of religious people, I mean there was one kid in most of my classes back in high school, he got straight A*s in everything, he was a really intelligent guy but he was ultra-religious and no matter how much we argued with him he didn't give us an inch, he was so stubborn.
I mean, what I want to know is why the fuck do Christians bother with education if they disagree with/ignore most of the stuff they get taught...
