Everything bad for DNZ (because i'm childish) and threetune.

Gave Tim Finnegan the golden che. Best poster on the board by a mile.

Gave Zanthorus 'best theory' award thingy.

Am I the only one who thinks it actually ruins the awards if people say who they nominated, especially in advance? That it affects voting the nomination process more in a negative than a positive fashion (creates bandwagon effects etc) and takes away the excitement.

I don't think people are supposed to be inspired to nominate certain people etc, they should come up with their own answers. :(

Don't think it makes a difference really, there's no thread if peopl can't discuss their choices. It's not like it's all that serious, anyway.

Sentinel
25th September 2011, 23:32
They've usually always been discussed afterwards, in the post-ceremony threads. That makes sense to me, not discussing them beforehand and thus affecting the outcome.

Yeah I know that it's not 'serious business' but why not strive to keep it at least half-serious, for the sake of fun and tradition?

So far there's about 15 participants whose answers have been recorded in the spreadsheets I've created in Google Documents. Some of the questions have a lot of answers being given, whilst some are quite unanimous.

Well I want my little coterie of choices to win so i'm going to keep plugging CotR, Tim Finnegan, Zanthorus et al.

And myself!

Not bad! Let's hope for a good turnout this year. :)

I remember that most of the replies came in the beginning when I did this, after which it slowed down. But I don't think 50 replies in total is an unrealistic goal.

And myself! Ah, well. As long as people don't start with downright election campaigns like Bud Struggle last year, when he won the Golden Che..

Which brings to mind, should we allow that highest prize going to restricted members or should they be excluded from it? :glare:

What time of day would be best to hold the ceremony in December? I was thinking of perhaps 10pm UK time, which is 11pm on most of the European continent, 5pm on the East coast of the US, 2pm on the West coast of the US, 7am in Sydney, Australia and 10am in New Zealand.

I've sent PMs to about 400 members giving a link to this thread, so hopefully we'll reach fifty or so. It would be great to get into the hundreds and get a bigger picture of RevLeft's demographics and how the forum answers the Award questions.

It's good that you have access to that mass PM function, I had forgotten about that. That just might make this the most successful awards so far.

As for the time, I think that's pretty optimal.

Btw RA, can you make cool image graphs for the survey, like the ones Fuserg made in 2009?

http://i50.tinypic.com/2itn9rt.jpg

(As for this particular one, I'm pretty sure Trotskyism would have scored higher if Fuser had included Trots that listed Revolutionary/Orthodox Marxist as their tendency in it)

That graph is cool. If I were stoned, I would stare at that so long and wonder if there was a subtle implication of Anarchism being in red and M-L being in blue.;)
