Socialism petition at Whitehouse.gov only needs 150 to make it on the page, and only 5000 for an official response. (http://wh.gov/g5B)
Although with the revival of McCarthyism, giving your name could be useful for the FBI.

This is kind of pathetic.
There's no way the U.S. government would abolish capitalism themselves.

Devin G, of Marysville, CA, is so silly.

So, how exactly does this work then? Obama sees the petition and is suddenly turned into a comrade in the struggle for socialism after viewing 5000 or so signatures urging him to do so? Why exactly are we petitioning a bourgeois leader into abandoning his entrenched class instincts when such is more or less an absolute impossibility given his current position on the throne of elite privilege and power?

Don't forget, Obama is already a Marxist Muslim Communist Socialist.

The emancipation of the working class must be an act of the Capitalist bureaucracy

It worst, it's an amusing diversion (and probably at best, too). I'm in!

EDIT: Screw this. I'm not creating a whitehouse.gov account!

The petition sounds like something an enraged liberal would say. Obama isnt a progressive either so this will be tossed into the trash. Cant believe people still hope he will realize his centrism is wrong. It wont happen.

It would be cool, you know, if they had remotely proper grammar:

Abolish capitalism in favor of socialism
There has been too many crimes and deaths caused by the current economic system today. We, the 99%, demand that the 1% of the population, the ruling elite, are stripped of their current power and socialism is adopted in the United States.

"There has been too many crimes and deaths..." How about "There have been too many" - you know, like past-tense plural? Maybe if it didn't sound like it was written by a 15 year old kid.

I wouldn't be too harsh on the grammar of someone who's complaining about capitalism without knowing much about them. Maybe one of their reasons for hating capitalism is that they got a bad education under it, and think that they could have had a better one under socialism.

I'm going to save these petitioners the time and guess that the official response would be something along the lines of "No"

As for giving names to the FBI. If you post here, or are involved with activism in general: don't worry, I'm sure they already know you.

To expand slightly on what cde KurtFFB wrote, I think I read that, in the wake of 9/11, the government monitored the e-mails of an awful lot of people, with the help of (still unidentified) internet service providers. In addition, the government, IIRC, supposedly reads e-mails sent by US residents to overseas addresses. Decades ago, while criticizing US intelligence services, dissident journalist I.F. Stone wrote, "It was not for want of spies that the Tsar fell," an elegant sentence that I still remember.

What a fucking Liberal waste of time. May as well petition for Communism to the king of Saudi Arabia, while we are at it.
