Last night, I listened to the death metal band Arch Enemy for the first time. What got me interested was the fact that the lead singer is a woman, which is very rare in the death metal industry.
After listening to the song "Nemesis" (Which is I think is an awesome anti-capitalism song) I'm totally hooked on them! I hold alot of respect for the lead singer, Angela Gossow. Not only because she's an anarchist, but also because she's probebly one of the greatest female death metal vocalists out there. She can do a death growl just as good as a man! Gotta love women of power.
Anyone here like this band?

Absolutely, I did stage security at a few of their shows and Angela is also a really nice, completely not diva, respectful person to work for, even making sure we got free t-shirts and cd's and such.

I think Arch Enemy are anarchists.

ah they're allright, they have some good songs. but since i only can judge from "anthems of rebellion" i wont make that a generalization. need to listen to their new stuff first. anyway, deat metal wise their not my favourites in anyway they're good but i like other bands more. also im much more into black metal then death metal anyway.

I haven't heard of them before but I do listen to Deathcore (mainly Carnifex's Hell Chose me album and Suicide Silence if they are considered deathcore)
Just listened to Nemisis and My Apocolypse and I'm sorta ify I like Deathcore mainly for the Lower voice (I have no idea about terminology:lol:) and drums.
Could anyone recomend some drum heavy songs by Arch Enemy(if there are any)?
edit: oh my bad! Deathmetal i thought it said deathcore, my quesiton still stands though :)

I've became hooked on on of their songs. Called "Cruelty Without Beauty". I love it because it basically describes my disgust and hatred of animal testing.

I have "Rise of The Tyrant" and "Anthems of Rebellion."
I've discovered that my favorite songs by them are the ones that start sort of techno-y, like "Instinct" and "I will Live Again."
Haven't listened to the newest album, though.

If you like Arch Enemy you should also check out The Agonist, which is also a death metal band with a female vocalist, however unlike Arch Enemy, in The Agonist there are grunts as well as normal vocals, both sung by the same woman.
And they got some pretty anti-capitalist songs as well.

Man I hate being a metal elitist, they're melo-death not death metal (See In Flame - Colony for another example of melo-death, for an example of straight death metal, see Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness).
I also don't particularly care for the melo-death genre, aside from the big three (In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and early At The Gates, though, ATG aren't really melo-death at their early years just straight up death metal, see the album The Red In The Sky Is Ours)

Indeed, calling them death metal made me want to rip my hair out. Melo-death is a horrid genre in my opinion. It feels fake and cliche. I prefer depressive black, grind and brutal death.
