Hey I don't really know if this has already been posted but here it is anyway.
The Slovakian Goverment recently voted a new law which from 1st Semptember 2011 whoever refuses or justifies the "crimes" of the communism ideology will be prisoned for 6 months or even 3 years. This is a very bad law which enhances nazism and nationalism.I hope that the communist people(if any in Slovakia) of Slovakia manage to remove this law because it is not democratic at all.
I just copied and pasted this it was origionally posted by el chavista.
Can anyone that supports the right of government to ban freedom of speach or thinks it was ok for governments to arrest people for having "reactionary" views condemn this without looking like a total hypocrite?

One is right, the other is wrong.
Why is it not hypocritical, then?
Because it is not wrong because its censorship. Opposing censorship should not be a priority, we should seek to censor the right-wing, the nutters, the reactionaries. They should be oppressed, they should be actively worked against. Anti-communist legislations are wrong because they are anti-communist, not because they are censoring.

So you believe in universal truth I guess, and I suppose YOUR turth is neccessarily right, so it should'nt be banned, but other ideas are obviously not truth so they should be banned, because god forbid you have open debate and democracy.

Freedom of speech is neccesary in a free society, and a free society is something everyone on this forum wants isn't it? Disregarding the pseudo-Stalininsts that is.

Perhaps Slovakia is influenced by the various bans against nazism, fascism ect which exists in several western European countries.
My understanding is that this website bans fascists because i is based in Germany which has laws against those type of people.

Right and left are not moral equals and reactionary views are not deserving of being heard.

Which is why anti-fascists with their heads on straight do not support state actions against fascism like this -- because laws like this set a precedent that can be used against other groups, e.g. us.

Yeah, such blanket-bans are usually ineffective at upholding their stated intent, and merely end up being a tool to suppress any group the government considers a threat.

Not even just blanket bans -- individual cases, I think, provide for enough of a precedent most of the time. I don't think we should cheer on the state or police when it comes to breaking up fascist meetings or harassing prominent fascists or whatever. Working class organizations should take that upon themselves.
if it was 1933 and fascism was still remotely relevant that is lol

People should have complete freedom of speech, the government should NEVER interfere with political speech in the slightest.
Communist, Nazi, Leftwing Rightwing. All political speech should be allowed.
