Do you see Communism ever being practiced and implemented in the near (or distant) future in North America?

Welcome to rev left,

I believe socialism can and will be practiced in north america pretty soon actually (I predict by 2020) when people are fed up with the corrupt government.

This will take a revolution, but it will be worth it.

For communism to work, the entire world needs to go socialist.

Communism is imposable within one country. You mean is socialism possible and I would say that the prospects of it coming in 9 short years is impossible.Maybe within our life time if we work hard it might happen, but not in a decade or so.

Let's stay optimistic? ;)

All I know is it ain't coming in eight years.

It's impossible to say, really. It all depends on a variety of different factors, including the level of militancy, awareness, and material conditions of the working class. And these things are constantly shifting.

Communism is possible and I believe it will happen someday, but that is a far future fantasy at this point. Socialism I think is totally possible within our lifetimes though, but not necessarily in the near future.

We'll get there.

I think the only way it will happen is with a quiet revolution - one that starts with bohemian communes, spreads with an underground all-inclusive education/solidarity movement, and grows to a popular understanding. By this time the military, government, and businesses will have been "infected" and the change will happen quickly, whether we're "socialist" or "capitalist".

We just need to start painting a picture of our future, laying down the framework, and filling the gap between where we are and where we will be, from all directions.

I won't resign myself to contributing to this thing's delay.

There is a definite probability of the US, at least, turning to Socialism in the future, but I wouldn't expect it for another decade at least.

Well, if we focus on voting for Democrats we will have communism pretty quick if we prevent Republicon fascists from being elected.

And do you think that it will be a realistic and practical decision, if one chooses to join the Communist Party of Canada?

I don't see communism happening in North America in my lifetime. All one needs to do is go to a few dive bars in the midwest and utter the word "communism" to know how dismal the situation is. Most Americans (and I imagine the majority of Canadians?) do not even understand what socialism is, let alone are open minded enough to consider it. The bourgeoisie know that communism can be a real threat as the gap between the rich and the poor grows ever wider, so they are turning up the heat in anti-communist propaganda. I don't know what we can do to combat this common ignorance of the masses.

As others have said, you can't focus on one specific region such as North America, you really have to look at the emerging class consciousness of the working class on an international scale to be met with a proper conclusion.

Digressing from that point though, I don't know if a revolution will break out in a matter of months, years, or even decades from now, and no one on the internet really knows either, regardless of what they may or may not say. The conditions are certainly prime for socialist and workers movements to gain momentum in many developed nations, and in many situations they are beginning to emerge as legitimate forces. It is a rising awareness that is certainly growing in its intensity and potential across the globe, and I have a good deal of hope that with enough organizing and agitation that this situation will only continue to take on a more revolutionary nature.

When the next great depression hits the world, a new wave of socialist struggles will begin/grow strong. That is what I believe.

This could be 100 years from now.

Neither Democrats, Republicans, Tea Baggers, or Independents will usher in an era of socialism. They will ride the capitalist bus into the ground my friend, as long as they can hold onto capitalism, they will.
