In light of a discussion in this thread (http://www.revleft.com/vb/libertarian-communism-anarcho-t160878/index.html?t=160878), I thought it would be interesting to have a discussion on the subject of free access, or not.
Personally I do not have good faith in the gift economy as espoused by most communist anarchists. However, I do believe in distribution according to needs.
IMO, we need three social units:
Syndicate (association of producers) Distributive union (association of producers and consumers) Commune (association of citizens)
I believe the social product should be distributed to all who contribute and those who are unable to contribute to the social product.
The syndicates produce goods and services. The unions determine production goals. The social product is distributed amongst the unions. The communes decide on collective consumption and what syndicates meet the criteria of forming a union. The syndicates which produce something for which there is, say, no demand at all, will not be associated to the commune and are not entitled to the social product.
I imagine this system can be criticised from both a communist/anarcho-communist perspective as well as those who advocate labour credits.
