The reason I ask this question is I finally finished my much anticipated A World To Win mod for Darkest Hour on Paradox's forums.

I am preparing to release it for download on a file sharing website.

However some file sharing websites(megaupload) say you must be 18 years or older to use their service. I am almost 18. Will I get in trouble if I put my mod up on their website(other modders have put their mods up too so why can't I?)

Also, do you think my parents would care?

Porn websites say you must be 18 years or older to use their services too...

so...Can I use an account on a file sharing website legally?

I worked SO HARD on this mod(I literally spent 4 months on it!). So is it all a waste of time then, huh?

Technically speaking, I don't think so, but how the hell are they going to find out?

No,unless what you are uploading is porn. You could also use MediaFire.

just because I'm curious, why is it illegal for someone below the age of 18 to use file sharing(which I use all the time to download mods for my game)

How exactly do they find out? If they can't legally themselves ask for my age, then how can they do anything about it?

They can't and they can't.

but why is it "illegal" to use it if your not 18?

Nobody cares. Ever. It's like you have to be a certain age to use Facebook, Youtube, etc - nobody cares. For example, the porn sites - they only have that warning so that they themselves won't get into legal trouble for *not* warning people.

To the capitalist state everyone is a criminal.

First of all: Why care if it's legal?

Secondly: You'll never, ever get in trouble with the law for this. And this is ever as in the entire period of the universe's existance.

These websites have to post those requirements to satisfy the law. They won't verify your age, nor will they waste their resources pursuing an "underage" user that's uploaded harmless content.

An example: imgur.com is a website created for reddit. Their ToS clearly states that pornographic images are not allowed and will be taken down. Yet the kid who runs that site allows those images to remain because he's not obligated to take them down; the users are obligated to not post them.

By saying "you must be 18+", they alleviate responsibility for any misuse originating from underage users.

You're not wrong in thinking it's an obtuse requirement.
