Because you didn't get in the mind set of it! you have to turn off the lights, play at night, put on headphones and play as if you are the character! Course it wouldn't be scary if i ran through it going, oh its a monster, oh no let me hide in a dresser. You have to play like"oh shit its a monster, i better run or im gunna die."

Have to play it like that, for this game atleast.
and your telling me the fact you couldn't kill any of the monsters did add to the "Fear" aspect of the game.

My friends and I hooked it up to a big screen to play it in the middle of the night. It scared the fuck out of us at first, but by the end it wasn't really scary at all. Very cool game though.

I found it suprisingly intense, until I read the back story.

Seriously, don't read the backstory dudes, keep it as mysterious as possible.
