So, I've heard everything about FARC, from "they're revolutionary guerrillas fighting for the freedom of the peasants against the bourgeoisie puppet government of Columbia", to "they are nothing but a group of marauding terrorist thieves, who massacre villages and pump cocaine into the rest of the world."
What is the truth? I was wondering, because the whole notion of guerrillas fighting in the jungle is very heroic sounding. Anybody care to shed some light on the subject for me?

Read James Brittain's Revolutionary Social Change in Colombia (http://www.amazon.com/Revolutionary-Social-Change-Colombia-Direction/dp/074532875X) and make up your own mind!
o well this is ok I guess

I don't know much about the subject, but the one thing I can say is that (from what I remember) the right wing paramilitaries produce far more cocaine than FARC.

I think they are great and continue a heroic struggle, though my knowledge on them is scant.

Not a fan of assassinating rivals and kidnapping and torturing people. They do take part in shit like this so I wont support them.

So long as they recruit children I am against them. Indoctrination is wrong, no matter whos side you are on.

Eh, it might be the media influencing me, but seems to me that their methods aren't really some that I like. Kidnapping, assassinating and all the business with drugs.
But of course it might just be the media trying to put them away as the 'bad guys'. The only times we really hear something about them here in the Netherlands is when it is about Tanja Nijmeijer, a Dutch woman who joined the FARC and when they give some background info about the FARC and the situation in Colombia, to me it always seems like both sides are just as bad.

This is one of those situations where the truth really is somewhere halfway in between.
