Most people on this site probably know about the super-exploitation that's taken place since the 80's, but I've found that most people do not.

Would you mind enlightening someone, please?

That is a very useful illustration. An absolute indictment on neo-liberalism: it has failed, utterly and conclusively.

I am aware of this exploitation, and I have referred to it as a "dark age" more then once. Furthermore, people seem to forget about our prison population, they think that we can just shove people off in prison and forget about them, but despite being in prison they are living/thinking human beings, so it is no wonder the NYT left this out:

Notice the big change around ~1980.

hey do you know what the populatuon increase of the prison pop is per year?
I heard on the television drama series Oz a few years ago, at the current increase in prison rate increases per year, more people will be incarcerated in the USA by 2050 than will be free. However, i have not been able, to find any stats for this. Is this true?
Sorry for the derailing of the topic of discussion, by the way.

I don't think so. Looking at that chart, it looks like that by 2050 the number of incarcerated people will be around 6 million, far below the total U.S. population, but damn close to the population of a small country, like say Israel.
