View Full Version : The 90s were rife with homophobia in films and tv....

I just rewatched In and Out with Kevin Kline and thought it was pretty stereotypical while trying to teach tolerance. Apparently, he found out he was gay by his particular interests in musicals.

Looking back, in ever Adam Sandler movie there was one dude smiling like a pervert at one of the main characters and we were supposed to laugh because it was disgusting or something.

Frasier was always thought of to be gay because of his tastes in various cusine, art and music.

Now the reason why I bring this up is all of these shows and films were apparently supposed to be liberal in nature or at least trying to preach against intolerance.

I have always thought that the liberal shows were a bunch of hypocritical bullshit. It is a lot like shows like Family Guy;they "support" queers while simultaneously littering their episodes with stereotypes, false statements which can easily lead astray the ignorant (I remember one episode of Family Guy where Stewie was playing with two muscled action figures and he turned to the screen and said,"yeah, you let your son play with ridiculously homoerotic dolls and you wonder...you're gay son is asking you"),and all around insulting "comedy."

Adam Sandler movies are a good example as well: he "supports" homosexuals while devoting an entire movie (ex "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry") to poking fun at gay culture.

In general liberals seem to have this attitude where they think they "support" gay men and lesbian women by saying various shit;crap which is lukewarm endorsement at best. You can't say "I support you" while also saying,"Oh,that's so gay man!"

Needless to say,if this is their attitude towards homosexuals, than you need not even dare venture into seeing how they react when transgendered people appear.

So? Frasier wasn't gay. Something much more annoying in that generally really good show were the constant jokes about Roz's personal life, it was never commented on that Frasier has sex with many women but Roz is always belittles because of the same behaviour.

Don't get me wrong, Frasier is my all time favorite sitcom, the point is that they were playing on stereotypes that all gay people are dandies. Remember the food critic?
