We who call for the world to become a Common Treasury for All and who call ourselves Socialists will be holding a stall at the 1st Wigan Diggers' Festival.

Come along and meet us to discuss socialism and how to organise to promote a world of production for use not profit. A world of common ownership and democratic control without the state, classes, leaders, nations, war or money.

"The festival aims to celebrate the life, ideas and actions of Wigan born and bred Diggers' leader Gerrard Winstanley who died on 10th September 1676.
Most of the details are yet to be finalised and will be announced as they are firmed up.
Outline plans currently include a proposal to stage a Diggers' style 'action' in Wigan town centre in support of the Mesnes Conservation Area group to kick off the day's event around 12.30pm.
A showing of the 1975 Kevin Brownlow and Andrew Mollo film "Winstanley" later in the afternoon.
An Exhibition of all the stuff we can get together on Gerard Winstanley.
The launch of an Appeal for the erection of a statute of Gerard Winstanley in Wigan town centre.
A day long tribute in words, music and song by various entertainers, groups, choirs and soloists, to the 17th century 'Diggers' and the radical, egalitarian movements of the propertyless that they and Gerrard Winstanley have later inspired and given rise to.
(Performers so far confirmed include Salford RAP Collective Class Actions, Manchester based Singer/Songwriter Phil Hanif and folk duo Es & Chris Chorlton, Bourbon Street Preacher Dave Eatock - many others are yet to confirm)
Bookstalls (if your organisation would like one then you should get in touch a.s.a.p)
If you can help out, please get in touch by e-mail via [email protected] and/or say in what way on the Festival's facebook event wall below.
We are wanting to get in touch with and solicit the support of any folk singers, groups, even choirs who might be able to perform at some point during the day.
We're wanting to push the idea of making this an annual festival which a broad based organising committee representative of the diverse organisations and individuals for whom Gerard Winstanley and 'The Diggers' continue to provide inspiration, might take overall charge of.
We appreciate this is short notice, but would like to get the ball rolling.
We certainly won't be expecting thousands to turn up under the circumstances, but would expect the event to be a 'reet good do' with lots of gradely folk attending.]
