Comrades,
Aside from charity, what are the other ways of helping people?

That's a pretty broad question, but in my case I've chosen to answer it through my occupation. I'll be back in school soon enough, and when I do I plan on a social science education major. Essentially, I wanna teach and I want to do it public schools. Apart from social work, it's essentially the most revolutionary and "helpful" occupation I can think of...

Liberating them from their capitalistic manacles, breaking their imperialistic chains, through active revolutionary socialism...

Volunteer work probably, or some other way to work for their benefit.

There are a lot of ways to help people. I have noticed people around me sometimes change for the better based on the advice I give them. The life advice is from my 'leftist perspective'. Don't visit when they're ever going to use this advice or when they might help someone else in the same fashion. It's the smallest thing you can do.
Organize your work place. Try to assist in bettering your co-worker's positions.
Get involved in everything you think you might want to- Even those groups/organizations that you think you might not quite fit into- maybe give it a shot anyways. Experience is vital.
Social sciences as a social worker can be depressing, stressful etc.. (this is what I've heard) but it might be your thing. Teaching is important- it takes a certain type of person to be a teacher in a public school as I think Praxis mentioned doing but you have the opportunity to teach in any thing you do.
guna, what are your talents? What are you good at? What do you like doing?
How can you help people with these?

Donate here and there to charity.
Keep a few granola bars or a snack that won't rot/go bad/tasty and filling in your car, when ever you see someone begging hand them one or two instead of giving them money to possibly fuel their addiction. Doesn't' hurt to hand them some leaflets with their food.
Volunteer work. Doesn't have to be a lot, just a few hours a month even.
Educate people, hand out fliers, ect.
Start a vegetable garden of your own. Have a little more independence and a little more to share.
And if you really want to help people all around, try NOT to buy from large chain stores that get their products from sweatshops. If you can.
That's all I can think of.

Stand up for those that cannot stand up for themselves (the whole socialist mindet except socialize it) if you see someone being mentally or physically bullied, then help them against their oppressor. Our biggest enemy as far leftists is the oppressors. Essentially be a non-super hero.
